From the ski resorts and recreation centers to the local restaurants and bars, the High Country offers a wide array of places to celebrate the upcoming year. All events take place on Saturday, December 31.

SKI RESORTS

Beech Mountain Resort-Music & Late Night Ice Skating
The Beech Tree Bar & Grille at Beech Mountain Resort celebrates New Year's Eve with two bands, drink specials and a champagne toast. Uncle Mountain and River Whyless will perform. The cover charge is $15, and the party takes place from 9:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. For more information, call 1-800-438-2093, ext. 205.

Appalachian Ski Mountain-New Year's Eve Extravaganza
Join Appalachian Ski Mountain for its annual New Year's Eve Extravaganza. The event includes fireworks, torchlight skiing and more. Sugar Mountain Resort Celebration
The Sugar Mountain Resort New Year's Eve celebration features live music by The Johnson Brothers. The general public is invited to watch the torchlight parade and midnight fireworks for free. However, a fee is charged and reservations are required for the indoor festivities, where The Johnson Brothers will play. Tickets cost $45 and $80. New Year's Eve Bash at Char
Char Restaurant and Bar hosts a New Year's Eve Bash. From 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Char will offer a five-course dinner for $55 per person. Then at 10:00 p.m., DJ C-ray will perform, and the evening features party favors, holiday decorations and a champagne toast at midnight. The cover charge is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Murphy's New Year's Eve Celebration
Murphy's Restaurant and Pub hosts local bluegrass favorites Boss Hawg and David Via and Corn Tornado for its New Year's Eve celebration. The evening includes a champagne toast at midnight. The cover costs $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, call 828-264-5117.

Boone Saloon Ballroom Blitz Dance Party

Canyons New Year's Eve Party
The Woodies, a newgrass band from Asheville, will perform at Canyons of the Blue Ridge Restaurant and Bar in Blowing Rock. The show starts at 10:00 p.m. The cover charge is $10 and includes a champagne toast at midnight. For more information, call 828-295-7661 or click to www.canyonsbr.com.

Crossroads Pub New Year's Eve Bash
Located off of N.C. 105, Blue Country will play at the Crossroads Pub and Neighborhood Grill. The show starts at 9:00 p.m., and the cover charge is $10. Also, the pub will host a four-course dinner for two that starts at 5:00 p.m. and costs $69 and includes a champagne toast at midnight. For more information, call 828-266-9190.

Vidalia Restaurant and Wine Bar
On New Year's Eve, Vidalia Restaurant and Wine Bar in Boone hosts a five-course holiday dinner from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., as well as special deals on champagne, which includes Leroy Duval. The meal costs $55, which does not include tax or gratuity. Call 828-293-9176 for reservations.

Grand Dame Big Band Ball at Green Park Inn
The New Year's Eve celebration dinner at the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock features a five-course dinner served from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The High Standards, a 10-piece swing band, will perform on the Laurel Ballroom stage. The band will also play a mix of '60s,'70s and '80s classics. At midnight a green horse will descend from the ceiling as the partiers ring in the New Year's with a champagne toast. The event costs $90.
For the early crowd, a three-course dinner will be served and the Charlie Ellis Jazz Trio will perform. The dinner takes place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and costs $42 per person (doesn't include tax or gratuity). New Year's Eve Party at Meadowbrook Inn
Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock presents a New Year's Eve Party that includes a wine and cheese tasting and games from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The lounge will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Also, a pizza party by the pool will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Popcorn and a movie event will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Prices vary per activity. For more information, call 828-295-4300.

New Year's Eve Party at Inn at Crestwood
The party at the Inn at Crestwood starts at 6:00 p.m. and includes a four-course dinner, champagne and DJ. The event costs $60. Inn at Crestwood is located on Shulls Mill Road in between Boone and Blowing Rock. For more information, call 828-963-6646.

FAMILY NEW YEAR'S EVENTS

Rockin' Family New Year's Eve Party at Buckeye Recreation Center
Have the little ones for this year's New Year's Eve? Bring them to Buckeye Recreation Center atop Beech Mountain from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. for dinner, games, a bounce house and a countdown, and still have them in bed at a reasonable hour. Chetola's Festival of Lights
