Antiques Fair and Art on the Mountain coming in late September

Antiques fair and Art on the Mountain coming in late September; vendors, artists wanted

Art, antiques and more will take center stage in late September as the West Jefferson Business Association's Antique Fair and the Ashe County Arts Council's Art on the Mountain hit the downtown area.

The antiques fair will be held from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 and re-opens Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Art On The Mountain takes place Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The fair will be held on Jefferson Avenue, from the Ashe Chamber of Commerce to the stop light at East Second Street. Also included will be East First Street and Third Avenue.

The Art On The Mountain will be in front of the Ashe County Arts Council building on School Street.

Jefferson Avenue will close at 3 a.m. Friday morning, Sept. 27 and remain closed until approximately 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Keith Woodie board member of the West Jefferson Business Association and owner of Antiques On Main said he is excited about being part of the fair organizing team. "We decided to expand the fair to a two day event to make it bigger and better than last years. Many vendors are returning from last year and we are adding new vendors each day."

"We have 45 vendors right now and we are still accepting applications,".

" Some downtown businesses, including Past and Present Antiques, the Candy Shack and Ripples Gallery plan to set up booths in front of their stores.

"We have two or three estates setting up.  The Ashe County Historical Society will have a booth. We also have a variety of antique dealers, featuring pottery, furniture, glass ware, paper, antique quilts and toys. There is no telling what someone might find. It's a treasure hunt waiting to happen!"

"It's a full-scale antique show and it?s looking really good,"

Food vendors are also planned, but on a limited basis.

"We want those attending the fair to enjoy our restaurants in West Jefferson,"

On Friday night, entertainment will be featured, but Woodie said plans are still in the works and more information will be announced as the event date nears.

"We're doing this to bring people in to enjoy our restaurants, our downtown shops and to see the improvements of our downtown area" . "Last year, thousands attended the event and we expect this year to be bigger and better. The event brought major tourism dollars to the area last year and we hope to do the same this year.

"Some of this year's sponsors are Dr. Pepper Bottling Company,  Ashe County Cheese, Boondock's Brewing, Smoky Mountain Barbecue, The Candy Shack and Antiques on Main. Any business interested in sponsoring please contact the WJ Business Association. We need all the help we can get."

Vendors interested in participating in the fair can pick an application up at Antiques on Main or at the Ashe Mountain Times office, by emailing [email protected]or [email protected]or by calling (336) 846-1231 or (336) 977-9165.
