Virginia Creeper Trail
The
Virginia Creeper Trail is 35 miles of pure delight for
hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. The trail stretches from
Abingon VA through Damascus VA, all the way to the North
Carolina state line near Whitetop VA. Biking, horseback
riding, and hiking are all permitted on the Creeper Trail.
They even offer bike rentals, shuttles and food along the
way as well as bed and breakfasts that boast the natural
scenery. This trail is very rich in natural beauty as well
as local history. The trail was once a railway bought by the
Virginia-Carolina Railroad Company and operated for nearly
100 years until it was left destroyed by torrential rain.
The tracks were ripped up in 1977, leaving it a premier
biker and hiker haven.
With its pristine beauty, natural rivers and waterfalls,
there is no question why the Creeper Trail is a favorite
among locals. You can enjoy a day of fly fishing or enjoy a
leisurely stroll and learn about the unique history of
Southwest Virginia. You may also try kayaking down the river
that runs along much of the Virginia Creeper Trail. This
trail is fun for the whole family with easier levels of
difficulty.
